Novecento in riva al mare | Riccione nel Ventennio in the newsreels of the Istituto Luce

Novecento in riva al mare | Riccione nel Ventennio negli cinegiornali dell'Istituto Luce
Edited by Gianfranco Miro Gori and Stefano Pivato, in dialogue with Marco Bertozzi and Andrea Tirincanti
The inauguration of the exhibition "Novecento in riva al mare" takes shape as a public and shared moment, with the participation of the authorities, institutional representatives and the realities that made its realisation possible. An inaugural talk that is not only an opening, but already the first traversal of the themes and outlook that guide the entire programme.
On Thursday 23 April, the focus of the meeting and screening is the documentation of the Istituto Luce, which constitutes the visual and interpretative core of the project. Research in the archives reveals newsreels and film material dedicated to the city during the Fascist period: images that not only narrate, but also construct a vision.
Through period sequences and newspaper reports, the way Riccione was portrayed in the regime's official films, between seaside tourism, urban transformation and propaganda narration is outlined. A view emerges that is both historical testimony and a device for constructing the imaginary.
The newsreels thus provide a precious trace of a decisive phase in which Riccione established itself as an emerging tourist resort, while Fascism used the cinema and the media to shape and disseminate a public narrative of the country.
Admission free while places last.
